What is Breakthrough Surf?

So you have received some emails from us maybe because you registered for our 5-day surf camp in Costa da Caparica, Portugal, or maybe because you read some of our blog posts and registered for more and you may be asking what is it that we do.
Is it a surf camp? Is it a surf school? A surf travel blog or a surf trip planner?
The reality is that it is a bit of all. As I was writing on our first blog post I started setting up surf trips and writing about those trips because I wanted to take you on that surf trip you have been dreaming of.
It was not that long ago that I was sitting all day in an office daydreaming about the time when I could escape my computer screen and go surfing, when I could go on my next surf trip, or where I would go.
So I said enough of daydreaming of surf and let's start organising some surf trips for me and other people and this was how Breakthrough Surf was born.
I later thought about the people who also wanted to go on these trips but could not surf, or who wanted to improve their surfing, so that's why I created the surf school and set up some surf camps to help people learn or improve. If you want to see how it was at our last camp then check this.
As I wrote in the initial post for my surf school explaining why I created Breakthrough Surf School in Caparica, Portugal:
I grew up surfing in Portugal traveling up and down this fantastic coast and as such the taste for surf traveling grew in me not only to search the close shores but also to seek faraway lands that often in my mind seemed to me more like imaginary Shangri-La’s of surfing than real places on earth.
I spent hours reading tales about these lands and staring at the very few photos available of those places while daydreaming of how it would be if I could travel there to surf.
When I grew older, those imprints in my mind drove me to seek those images in real life, leading me to some amazing adventures.
But it's not just about surfing, it's also about finding your tribe in the worldwide surfing community. We live In a world where we are becoming more disconnected from each other and from nature, maybe because It's so easy to get absorbed by our screens, or because the cities have become too big and impersonal to foster a sense of community or even because in our modern way of life people move from town to town much more frequently than ever before. So, since surfing has always given me a sense of belonging and fulfillment and its community keeps growing, I thought, I could try to create a like-minded community of surfers and so, when I started Breakthrough Surf I gave it a mission:
To provide meaningful surf trips and surf travel experiences by creating a vibrant and creative environment with a strong sense of community and belonging
I believe that if you are reading this it's because you are also thinking and feeling the same as me as you spend your time looking at your computer screen, checking the videos, media posts, and beach cams wishing you were surfing.
So keep reading our blog and subscribe (if you haven't yet) so we can keep you on track with our surf trips, and surf camps and send you discounts on trips.
Some posts will be announcements about our offers but many others will be about surf spots, surf travel, inspiration for travel, and other surf-related subjects.
